TOP TREND 1 – LUXURY FLOORING
Bold large plank wooden floors and geometric parquet flooring are making a come back in 2020. It’s resurgence is part of the new decorating trend called ’20th Century Art Deco’. 20th Century Art Deco is a modern reinvention of the classic Art Deco look, according to Luxury Lifestyle Magazine. It’s a style defined by decadent detailed decor, bold geometry and rich hues, which we will discuss later in this blog.

TOP TREND 3 – DARK KITCHENS, BATHROOMS AND DOORS
2020 could be all black…in our homes I mean! According to LivingEtc internet searches for black and navy blue kitchens are up 93% in past six months and making it one of the top 5 decorating trends for 2020.
While Houzz website reports that they are seeing dark colours becoming more popular among their community. This trend looks set to rise even further with searches for ‘dark’ and ‘black’ interiors appearing in the most popular list for the first time in 2019. Searches for ‘black kitchen’ in particular increasing 46% year on year.
With the pantone colour of 2020 being ‘Classic Blue’, which is a navy toned blue, Good Housekeeping say that it seems to be replacing grey as the go-to on-trend colour. Houzz.co.uk are also reporting that the search term ‘Navy bedroom’ is new, which appears to signal a departure from Scandi-inspired minimalism and a move into darker and more atmospheric interiors.
TOP TREND 4 – BOLD BLACK AND WHITE CONTRAST
We mentioned earlier the trend toward ‘Art Deco’. Part of this trend is to have high contrasting colours, like black and white which gives a room a dramatic effect.
Some of the most popular photos searched for on Houzz, at the end of 2019, back up this emerging trend. Images featuring white painted walls, black metal-framed screens, geographic patterns, gilded frames and furniture ranked high in the top search results.

TOP TREND 5 – ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PRODUCTS
Sustainability is becoming a more frequently requested feature by homeowners on Houzz. 15% of renovators stating that ‘integrating green materials’ was a priority when completing renovations. The word ‘eco’ also made it into the 2019 most searched for keywords.

Bee Friendly Products on the Rise
Osmo also have an extensive environmentally friendly policy. They support sustainable forestry and have FSC©-certification for certain products. Their wood finishes has been based upon purified and refined natural resources, with the dry finish fulfilling both the DIN EN 71.3 (suitable for children’s toys) and DIN 53160 (fast to perspiration and saliva) and as such is safe for humans, animals and plants.
Osmo have been working for many years with ‘High Solid Products’ which contain only a small amount of solvents. They are also working on developing products which are completely free from solvents (VOC’s).
Osmo, along with many other manufactures, are now producing Bee Friendly products known as ‘Non-Biocide’s.
